Arizona. Criminal Defense. Personal Injury.

Let's talk about where you stand.

Something happened, and you're trying to figure out what to do next. Jessica Hernandez will sit down with you, in English or en español, and walk you through what's happening and what your real options are. No script. No jargon. Just a straight answer.

Direct. Big-hearted. In your corner.

Jessica Hernandez has spent more than twenty years in courtrooms across Arizona. She opened JMH Law Group so the person you talk to first is the person who actually handles your case, from the first phone call to the last court date. She's the one who reads your file, shows up to your hearings, and picks up the phone when you have a question.

She's a Latina attorney, a mom, and a lifelong advocate for her community. None of those things stay in separate rooms, instead they inform how she advocates for her clients, fiercely, but with humanity and heart. She leads with compassion, but she won't sugarcoat what you're facing. You'll always know exactly what's happening and what she actually thinks, not just what you want to hear.

"Every case starts with a real conversation, not a transaction. Cafecito, my treat."

Jessica serves clients across the Phoenix metro and statewide. Se habla español. She's proud to serve Arizona's Spanish-speaking families, so you can tell your story in the language that feels most natural to you.

Five kinds of hard days, one attorney.

Jessica focuses her practice on the situations Arizona families most often need real help with. Start with a conversation about what's happening and what comes next.

The answers below are general information, not legal advice for your specific case.

Criminal Defense

"I've been charged with a crime in Arizona. What happens now?"

A charge is not a conviction. When the state files paperwork against you, it can feel like everything has already been decided. It hasn't. There's a process, and there are real choices to make along the way. Jessica's job is to walk through that process with you, understand the case the state is trying to build, and put you in the strongest possible position to answer it.

In Arizona, criminal charges land in three different courts: municipal courts and justice courts handle misdemeanors and Superior Court handles felonies. Jessica appears in all of them, across Maricopa County and statewide. Whether you're facing a first-time DUI in Scottsdale, a domestic violence charge in justice court, or an aggravated assault indictment in Superior Court, the first conversation is the same: she listens, she looks at exactly what the state has, and she tells you what she sees, in plain language, with a realistic plan for what comes next.

Personal Injury

"I got hurt because someone else was careless. Do I have a case?"

You should be focused on healing, not fighting an insurance adjuster. Jessica takes on car and truck collisions, motorcycle and pedestrian injuries, dog bites, slip-and-fall injuries, wrongful death claims, and insurance bad-faith disputes. She builds the fullest picture of what happened, what it cost you, and what it will keep costing you, then negotiates from that position. She works on contingency: no fee unless she recovers for you. And if the insurance company won't offer what your case is actually worth, she's prepared to file suit.

DCS Dependency

"DCS has opened a case on my family. What do I do?"

If the Arizona Department of Child Safety has opened a case, or removed a child from your home, the clock is already running and what you say in the first few days matters. Jessica represents parents through dependency proceedings in Maricopa County Juvenile Court. She goes to every hearing, works with you on the case plan, and pushes back in writing when the state's version does not match the family in front of her.

Orders of Protection

"There's an order of protection involved. Which side needs an attorney?"

Both. Arizona orders of protection and injunctions against harassment can be issued quickly, sometimes on only one side of the story. Jessica represents both petitioners who need protection kept in place and respondents who need an inaccurate order challenged. Either way, the hearing goes better when someone in the room actually knows how these hearings work.

Juvenile Matters

"My child was arrested. Does this go on their record?"

Juvenile court in Arizona follows different rules and has different outcomes on the table than adult court. What lands on a young person's record now can follow them into college applications and background checks for years. Jessica represents children and teenagers at intake, advisory, adjudication, and disposition, and helps families understand what shows up on the record and what can be set aside later.

What to expect when you work with Jessica.

  1. 01

    Honest Answers

You'll leave every conversation understanding what's happening, what your choices are, and what Jessica actually thinks. She'll give you her honest assessment, even when the answer is difficult. If she can't explain something clearly, she won't recommend it.

  2. 02

    Careful Preparation

Every hearing gets prepared for like it's the one that decides the case. Nobody walks into a courtroom wondering whether Jessica has actually looked at the file.

  3. 03

    A Steady Hand

Some days you need advice. Some days you just need someone to pick up the phone. Jessica does both, for as long as your case takes, because every case starts with a real relationship, not a file number.
